Deciding
to become a Bradley Method® instructor was a rather natural process for Deanne
Falzone. With 10 years of early childhood teaching experience
and a bachelor and masters degree in Education, Deanne’s
passion for teaching meshed with her new passion for healthy childbirth
shortly after the birth of her first daughter.
“When
I became pregnant, I had many questions and even some fears regarding
my pregnancy: diet, pain management in labor, place of
birth, medical interventions, relationship with my practitioner,
and others. My
husband and I began to research different childbirth methods
and chose the Bradley Method® for its comprehensive approach
with emphasis on a healthy mom and healthy baby. I was
so impressed with the Bradley Method®, and it was so helpful
to my husband and me in the birth of our daughter, I decided
to become an instructor myself.”
Deanne’s daughter’s
birth was completely unmedicated and a tremendously empowering
experience, partly because of how it could have turned out differently:
“Our
baby decided to make her entrance into the world 4 weeks early! There
were several posing variations which could have led to possible
medical interventions such as being induced since my bag of waters
started leaking without having contractions. The knowledge
we gained in our Bradley® training helped us work through
the variations and I was able to stimulate my labor naturally. The
climax was the incredible experience of birthing our daughter
without any unnecessary medical interventions, an experience
I would hope for every woman.”
Deanne’s family has
expanded with a second daughter, which she birthed at home:
“Getting
ready for our second child was exciting and being able to birth
at home was a quiet and peaceful experience. We prepared
as we did with our first birth and the Bradley Method® definitely
helped us through by using counter-pressure techniques to off-set
strong back labor contractions. With labor, you have to
see how it unfolds and then respond to what relaxation techniques
work best and I believe that the Bradley Method® provided
the tools to prepare for that."
Deanne has been an affiliated
Bradley Method® instructor since 2002, first as a teacher
in Boston and then in Chicago. When not teaching or caring
for her two girls, you’ll often find Deanne reading, in
a rocking chair with a knitting project, or in the kitchen trying
out some new pastry recipe. She also is an independent
distributor of baby carriers, a valuable product Deanne feels
all parents can benefit from as she has. Deanne and her
husband James, a composer and clarinetist, love to spend time
walking in the city or the woods, cooking and traveling. Deanne
and her family live in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood.
“I
truly enjoy partnering with families to help them become aware
of their birthing options and I believe the Bradley Method® is
a great childbirth education choice for a family.” |
